Portraits with Sophie at Lake Shrine Temple in Malibu

This summer, Jake and I had the absolute pleasure of exploring the grounds of Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine Temple, in Malibu California, for Sophie’s portrait session.

Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine is a Temple, a Shrine, and a Meditation Garden offering visitors from around the world a quiet oasis for meditation, prayer, and receiving the teachings of the original founder,  Paramahansa Yogananda.

All are welcome. Every religion, faith, background… the shrine is a safe place for all inclusiveness. When I was contacted from an old high school friend looking to have photos taken of her beautiful daughter, I wanted to pick the perfect location to make Sophie happy and comfortable; but also a place we could all enjoy exploring together! Full of color, creatures and wonder, we thought Lake Shrine Temple would be a wonderful place for a portrait session with Sophie.

We met up with Sophie and her mom in the main parking lot of the gardens. Wearing a beautiful white lace dress, Sophie looked angelically beautiful and ready to explore!

For years, I have wanted to visit Lake Shrine Temple. I was so thrilled to finally have the chance to go! I’m glad that I waited and had to the chance to go with Sophie. As a special needs child, she shared with me a unique perspective of the entire grounds. She showed us how to take it all in, stop and smell the flowers (both literally and figuratively) , feed and watch the fish, ducks and turtles.

We smiled, laughed and caught up on life’s wildest adventures while we sat by the lake. It was already an amazing day and a wonderful shoot when Sophie turned to her Mom to tell her how happy she was. It was a beautiful moment!

After two laps around the lake, great photos of Sophie, and a calming peace that would stick with me for a week, we called wrap on the shoot and headed for snacks!

Without further ado, here are some of the photos from our photoshoot with Sophie!:
