How To Make Your Photos Look Their Best On Facebook!

Have you ever posted a photo on Facebook and was disappointed by how TERRIBLE they look?! You are not alone! The recent algorithm changes has all photo lovers thrown for a loop.

As professional photographers, it didn’t take long under the new algorithm changes for us to start searching for a better option for posting our work on Facebook.

We found a quick workflow to creating top quality web ready images that will look PERFECT on Facebook

For this tutorial, you will need Lightroom and Photoshop.

1. Sharpen Image in Lightroom a little more than you normally would. This will translate most when you downsize your image for Facebook.Screen Shot 2017-11-16 at 9.21.58 PM

2. Export your image to have an original high resolution version of your photo!

3. Open your image in Photoshop.Facebook allows images to be a maximum of 2048 pixels on their longest edge. You will want to resize your image before proceeding.

4. Duplicate your background layer. Zoom in to 100% (by pressing command -> + on a mac) in order to see exactly how the sharpness is being applied to your image.

5. Filter -> Other -> High Pass

6. Set the radius no higher than 1.0 pixels and press okay. Play around with what works best for your image. Larger file images we use 1.0. Smaller files I would probably drop the radius lower than 1.0 in order to not over sharpen.

7. Set the background copy layer blending mode to Overlay. For a little extra sharpening you can set you blending mode to Vivid Light

8. Flatten image. Save your image as a .png file rather than a .jpeg file. This will translate in a larger file size because of the way Facebook compression algorithm handles png files.
